We’re Back!

Hi everyone, the modern day version of the slide night is about to begin – join us if you will! 😍 We’ll be experiencing the best of Italian culture in Tuscany and Florence, cruising from Venice to Rome and then finishing with ten days in our favourite country with family and friends.

As usual, my disclaimer – this is mostly written for my future reference so may contain mundane details at times 😊

Zoe, Russell and I left Adelaide for Melbourne, from there on to Dubai where Zoe would continue to Morocco and we would fly to Rome.

The flight from Melbourne to Dubai gave me plenty of time to mentally review my very time poor and uncharacteristically haphazard packing for this trip and realise a few glaring omissions…… most things can be remedied in Dubai airport though so after a quick shower we waved goodbye to Zoe and hit the shops.

Continuing on to Rome it was a pleasant surprise to see that smart gates have been installed and we were through immigration, had collected baggage and met our transport within half an hour, arriving at our hotel (The Liberty Boutique) about 45 minutes later.

This hotel has recently been refurbished and some areas ( a rooftop restaurant) are still under construction but we were very happy with our room, the facilities and very friendly staff. I had chosen it mainly for its proximity to Termini rail station from where we would depart tomorrow morning so after a quick shower and change we wandered down to Termini to find a telco store and ‘get connected.’

30 euro for 30GB over 30 days seemed like a good deal and she gave us a tip on how to watch Game of Thrones in Europe – will see if that pans out later!

Dinner at Mamma Angela Trattoria across the road was fine for weary travellers and we hit the sack at a fairly respectable 9.45 😊

Tomorrow we hit the road.
