Our last full day in Mullion was grey and wet when we awoke and by the time we drove off to the riding stables at 1100 we had had the old “four seasons in one day.”
Russell and I had booked a 1.5 hour beach ride and were joined by a couple of girls who had just finished their veterinary exams the day before. Russell was allocated the chunky “Spice” and I had “Lady.”
Five minutes after riding out it rained quite heavily but then the sun and wind dried us out nicely and we meandered down to the Polhurrian beach for a nice canter.
After the ride we came back for a quick shower before making our way to St Ives situated about 40 mins away on the Northern Cornwall coast. We had been advised that parking was a nightmare and to get the train from nearby Lelant Saltings which turned out to great advice. Not only was the parking stress free but the 11 minute ride was very scenic.
St Ives proved to be much more 'cosmopolitan' than our previous destinations in keeping with what we had heard about Northern Cornwall being more developed than the 'wilder' southern coast. I loved it though, great shopping!
After a very pleasant afternoon in St Ives it was time to head home for our last dinner together at the Mullion Cove Hotel.
The Mullion Cove Hotel is a very grand building with spectacular views and turned out some lovely meals but with questionable service. One of our waiters did provide us with an absolutely hilarious moment to cap off the evening and we trundled home to contemplate packing up….
