Upgrading to the massive Chevvy Suburban (which accommodated the wedding eight) we battled out of Vegas and headed for the relative coolness of the Grand Canyon, expected to be 14 degrees cooler than the oppressive 45C in Vegas.
Taking a slight detour to traverse part of old Route 66 we encountered a massive thunderstorm which amazingly even produced hail stones!
A large group of bikers ahead of us were forced to seek refuge on the side of the road as visibility was dramatically reduced.
Finally, after 400 plus miles, late in the afternoon we reached our destination and unanimously decided it had been worth the drive – one of the seven wonders of the world, the Grand Canyon.
More photo ops the next morning, dance practice on the edge, wildlife spotting and iPad camera tuition and then we were on the road back to Las Vegas, such is our hectic schedule!
Tomorrow, north to Portland,Oregon….
