“We’re all goin on a Summer Holiday….”

Monday, and the weather is still holding.

A leisurely start saw us on the road at midday and heading west along the coast where fantastic views abound.

Poldhu Cove

The first of which was beautiful Poldhu Cove with the stately white building on the bluff which we thought must clearly be a hotel and later found out is a residential care nursing home! (I've booked a spot :). )

Further along we spotted Church Cove, famous for the Church of Storms situated directly on the beach and we eventually found the road access to it from the other side.

Church Cove

The weather was the warmest we have experienced so far and made for thirsty work.

We satisfied ourselves with some Cornish ice cream and headed down to the beach and Church.

Adjacent to the beach there is a very scenic (and challenging no doubt) golf course and we could see the odd golf cart from time to time as jets from the nearby airforce base circled overhead.

The Church cemetery made for sombre reading with many graves of infants and children.

Bonnie and Sam went for a quick dip ( in Bonnie's case, very quick!) before we resumed our journey further westward.

After a quick stop in Helston for lunch supplies we headed down to Porthleven to eat. Porthleven is the most southerly port in England and is well known as one of Cornwall's best surfing beaches although today there was no sign of the 2 metre swell.

Deciding we had seen enough for today and bearing in mind we were making our local quiz night debut this evening, we made our way back to the Old Chapel in time to catch the last of the Australia v Spain game 🙁

At 7.45 we were ensconced in an alcove of The Old Inn just down the road and ready to do battle. Some time later, after a nice meal, we were left bemoaning the fact that we really don't know our Cliff Richard albums well enough but had had a great time nevertheless.

Never mind, Porthleven has one Thursday night …..
