Tide pooling

The next day we decided to venture the very small distance south of our rental to our ‘local’ Seal Rock State Park.

We did get somewhat sidetracked on the way to the local glass blowing gallery where I came away somewhat poorer and now facing yet another new carry on bag purchase…. Absolutely beautiful pieces featuring the Oregon glass floats.

Historically visitors searching Oregon’s beaches often found treasures from the east: blown glass floats in intriguing shades of green and blue which were used by Japanese fishing crews on the other side of the Pacific to float their nets. These days many local artisans recreate these in many shapes and sizes and I couldn’t resist !

This little detour meant we missed the low tide at the beach and hence our opportunity to go tide pooling but it was very photogenic anyway in the drifting sea fog.

Later in the day we came back at low tide and found a completely different scene…

Low tide

The beach was very popular at low tide with families exploring the rock pools, people foraging for mussels and the usual dog walkers 😉

Very conveniently our local Japanese was open for take out and we stocked up to head home and  watch the sunset.

Dinner!
