This is what we came for….

Waking at 5 am has some benefits and a sensational sunrise from our bedroom window was one of them.

Sunrise San Quirico d’Orcia

Pancakes for Easter Sunday breakfast whilst we planned the day ahead.

Fully expecting that many shops would be closed we decided to simply wander and let the Tuscan countryside speak for itself. We had copious notes from one of my revered travel forum writers and so set off to capture our own slice of this verdant valley loosely following his suggested driving routes.

Safe to say it’s hard to take a bad shot 😉

Our village, San Quirico d’Orcia

The weather remained largely overcast with some distant haze, not cold though so good for sight seeing but not optimal for photos but hey we’re in Tuscany!

We found our way to nearby Pienza which was bustling with tourists and locals alike and contained a mix of somewhat tacky tourist shops, high end artisan boutiques and LOTS of restaurants!

Happy Easter!

I particularly liked some linens in a beautiful store but managed to refrain, thinking of the state my suitcase!

We had lunch in one of the many restaurants tucked away in secluded courtyards and then drove home via a dirt road with photo stops at every turn….

Pienza

An early night and planning for tomorrow.
