Retail therapy – in moderation

Cloudy skies and a suggestion of fog greeted us this morning – I am yet to see night, crashing before dark and awakening after sunrise but will manage to see the Eiffel Tower light show by the end of the week I'm sure.

Rosey and Sharon had day two of their hop on hop off bus ticket remaining but decided to accompany us on our search for the covered streets first up.

At the end of the 18th century Parisian town planners created a labyrinth of hidden 'passages' where streets were covered over to protect shoppers from inclement weather and dirty streets. They became the modern symbol of urban life and were the place to shop. Many, however fell into disrepair and were abandoned until a refurbishment program began in the 1980s.

Next stop was the beautiful Galeries Lafayette in the 9th arrondissement – an upmarket department store famous for its glass and steel dome and of course the plethora of big name designers contained within 🙂

After a quick look around and the obligatory photos – no mean feat as it was very busy – the girls went off to reconnect with the BigBus and I decided to do a bit of retail therapy whilst Russell checked out the nearby bookshop.

Nearby Printemps was celebrating 150 years in business with a pretty pink theme but the roast dinner was beckoning and we were also intent on tracking down the saddlery we had heard of further down Haussmann Boulevard.

As it turns out, quite a bit further down but eventually we found it and deemed it worthy of a second visit with the rest of our party at a later time.

Back at the apartment the girls were just back and recovering from an afternoon exploring and climbing Notre Dame. We compared notes over cheese and figs whilst waiting for Russell's fig stuffed pork roast to cook.

The roast was delicious and despite attempting to last longer than last night we are all headed for another early night…
