Blois and beyond

Wednesday, our last day in Blois, the sky was blue the sun was shining and we decided to head for the market described as having a “North African influence” in the notes in our rental house.

Jeanette (GPS) and I had several disagreements about how to get there but eventually we reached the right spot and found the most uninspiring French market we have visited thus far in France.

Well, the least “typical French as we know it” market anyway. We saw some nice produce stalls but as we are leaving here tomorrow there didn't seem to be any point stocking up on food and the remainder of the stalls were quite underwhelming.

We decided instead to do a walking tour of Blois which began near the Blois Château…..

Château de Blois

And got slightly derailed when we spotted 'moules' on the menu in a restaurant in the pretty Louis XII square..

I couldn't finish mine (luckily Russell could) and we rolled out of there to recommence our walk over the bridge for photo ops on the other side of the Loire.

I'm not sure if the river is still swollen from recent flooding but it was certainly fast flowing and looked to be high.

The views from the opposite side looking back to Blois were stunning and whilst not still enough for a perfect reflection were pretty good!

We investigated a concert venue being set up, regretfully decided to miss the “twist and shout” event scheduled for tonight and then walked back over the bridge, intending to find La Poste to post my postcards.

Eventually (not easily) we found the recognisable yellow postbox and realised I had left the post cards in the car!

We consoled ourselves with an icecream instead, restocked on wine and began the upstairs march back to the car park.

Calling it a day at about 5pm we headed home to bring the washing in and start tidying up in readiness for our departure tomorrow.

We have loved our time at Closerie Falaiseau (http://www.loirevalleyholidayrental.com) – a beautifully equipped and furnished home, a credit to its Aussie/French owners. Our only regret has been the lack of outdoor dining opportunities thanks to the ferocious mosquitos – unfortunately a result of the recent flooding.

Tomorrow, we head south.
