KOTOR
Our next port of call was Kotor, Montenegro. We had been warned to set the alarm so as not to miss the stunning approach to this small city and we weren’t disappointed..
It was also perfectly calm and we were able to enjoy breakfast on the balcony, it turned out to be the only time that conditions allowed.
Our shore excursion today took us to the village of Perast with its picturesque church, Our Lady of the Rocks.
“According to legend, the islet was made over the centuries by local seamen who kept an ancient oath after finding the icon of Madonna and Child on the rock in the sea on July 22, 1452. Upon returning from each successful voyage, they laid a rock in the Bay. Over time, the islet gradually emerged from the sea.The custom of throwing rocks into the sea is alive even nowadays. Every year on the sunset of July 22, an event called fašinada in the local dialect, when local residents take their boats and throw rocks into the sea, widening the surface of the island, takes place.”
In the afternoon we wandered the streets of Kotor itself and dreamt about having the energy to climb the walls above the city 😊
The sail out was just as spectacular, especially as we enjoyed it from the window table of the Prime 7 restaurant, our first ‘speciality dining’ reservation.
